Jabhat al-Nusra attacks Syria's ancient Aramaic village - Truthloader
The Syrian village of Ma'loula in the mountains north of Damascus is a UNESCO world heritage site, it is one of the only villages in the world where ancient Aramaic is still spoken - that's the language believed to have been spoken by Jesus Christ. It has been overrun in an assault by al-Qaeda linked group Jabhat al-Nusra, who were fighting alongside opposition brigades from Baba Amr in Homs. A nun from a convent in Ma'loula has accused Jabhat al-Nusra of shelling the village and its inhabitants indiscriminately. Syria militants take part of Syrian Christian town of Ma'loula
Foreign-backed militants operating inside Syria have moved into the center of the Christian town of Ma'loula after several days of fighting. The militants, including the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front terrorists, stormed the Orthodox Mar Takla convent in the middle of the city, the official SANA news agency reported. The report added that the foreign-sponsored militants took several nuns hostage in the convent, which is home to 40 nuns and orphans. Given past atrocities, security sources and observers do not rule out the possibility of violence against the Christian residents of the historic town. Meanwhile, sources say that the militants took part of Ma'loula after five days of clashes, while Syrian forces have recaptured the town of Qara and Deir Attiyeh, and are currently battling the foreign-backed militants for control of Nabak. The militants had attacked Ma'loula early in September and captured some parts of it. However, they were pushed out of the town by the Syrian troops. The beautiful town is regarded as a symbol of the ancient Christian presence in Syria. Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. Reports indicate that the Western powers and their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside the country. According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions displaced in the violence.- published: 03 Dec 2013

Syrian army retakes almost full control of Ma'loula
Syrian army has taken almost full control of the Christian town of Ma'loula, pushing foreign-backed militants out of the historic town, Press TV reports. According to Press TV correspondent in Ma'loula, 90 percent of the town is now under government control and the militants have retreated to mountains surrounding Ma'loula. Fierce clashes still continue in the town, which is reported to be almost empty of civilians. Militants from the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front and the Qalamun Liberation Front attacked Ma'loula, which is located about 70 kilometers northeast of Damascus, last Wednesday and captured some parts of it. One resident said militants burned a church on the western side of the town and stormed into two other churches and robbed them. Another resident said the militants attacked Christian homes and churches shortly after entering the village. The historic village, which is on a UNESCO list of world heritage sites, is home to two of the oldest surviving monasteries in Syria: Mar Sarkis and Mar Takla. Some villagers there still speak a version of Aramaic, an ancient language believed to have been spoken by Jesus Christ. http://www.presstv.ir/- published: 11 Sep 2013

Syria foreign-backed militants kidnap 12 nuns in Ma'loula
Foreign-backed militants operating inside Syria have kidnapped 12 nuns from a convent in the Christian town of Ma'loula. According to local authorities on Tuesday, the militants took the nuns to the nearby town of Yabrud after they stormed the convent on Monday. There is no word on the fate of the nuns, but militants are usually known to kill people they kidnap. The militants fighting against the Syrian government had attacked Ma'loula, which is regarded as a symbol of the ancient Christian presence in Syria, early in September and captured some parts of it. However, they were pushed out of the town by the Syrian troops. The Syrian army has been battling the foreign-sponsored militants in the regions near the capital Damascus. The army has cleared many towns and villages of the foreign-sponsored militants. Sources close to the militants have admitted that government forces have been making significant gains near Damascus and others parts of the country. Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside Syria. According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions displaced in the violence. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced that the number of Syrian refugees, who have fled to neighboring countries, has passed the three-million mark. Furthermore, the UN recently warned against the humanitarian situation in Syria, saying that over nine million people are in need of urgent aid due to the crisis in the Middle Eastern country.- published: 04 Dec 2013

Syria army attacks militants in Ma'loula Christian village
Syrian troops have launched an attack on hills overlooking the Christian-majority village of Ma'loula, two days after militant groups captured parts of the ancient village. Opposition sources say government forces attacked the hills around Ma'loula village early on Monday under the cover of heavy shelling. Ma'loula is reported to be almost empty after most of its residents fled following the arrival of the foreign-backed militants last week. According to a resident, who left the area in the past days, only around 50 people remain there. Militants from the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front and the Qalamun Liberation Front are reported to be in control of some parts of the historic village, which is located about 70 kilometers northeast of Damascus. Residents say militants have burned a church on the western side of the village and stormed into two other churches and robbed them. Anti-Damascus militants attacked Ma'loula on Wednesday and briefly entered the village a day after. But they were forced to pull out hours later following heavy clashes with Syrian troops. Militants recaptured some parts of Ma'loula following fierce fighting late Saturday. One resident said the militants attacked Christian homes and churches shortly after entering the village. The historic village, which is on a UNESCO list of world heritage sites, is home to two of the oldest surviving monasteries in Syria: Mar Sarkis and Mar Takla. Insurgents fighting against the government plan to use a group of nuns as human shields
Latest media reports from Syria say insurgents fighting against the government plan to use a group of nuns kidnapped from their convent in the town of Ma'loula as human shields.
The 12 Syrian and Lebanese nuns were kidnapped from a Greek Orthodox convent after the notorious al-Nusra Front militants took over parts of the Christian town. The nuns were then taken to Yabrud - a town under insurgent control north of Damascus. This, as Syrian forces have been deployed to the historic town to restore security there. The militants took over the town on Monday after rolling explosive-filled tires down the hills onto government forces, following three days of intense fighting. The kidnappings have drawn condemnation from the Vatican. Iran has also slammed the assault on the Christian religious site and called for the immediate release of the nuns. It’s also urged the international community to take immediate action to prevent such criminal acts from taking place in the future.
